In a nutshell, Ghana is forging forward with the goal of development via ICT. At the same time, there is a massive and worsening problem of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Kids and teenagers are processing and recycling these products, which exposes them to toxins, particularly when they burn insulation off wires to get at the copper inside.
Apart from that, the toxins leach into the soil and put the wider population at risk. What is the Ghana Government and/or the private sector going to do about WEEE? As the influx of computers and phones to Ghana increases, the problem of sustainability can only get worse.
